Flooring

Our flooring is as attractive and as sustainable as we can possibly make it. We source the logs in Central Scotland, and then mill them, kiln dry the boards, make the flooring and can even lay it and finish it. By controlling the whole process, we can create a unique floor for you, using a range of board widths and different species.

We use local timber to minimise the energy and carbon emmissions from transport, and because of the unique colour and character of Scottish hardwood. Why would anyone want to import hardwood flooring when we have such a resource on our own doorstep? And we often use a mix of different widths because it looks good, and reduces wastage in the manufacturing process. We use the types of wood which are available locally, beech, elm, sycamore, ash and oak. Chosing the species to use is mainly down to the look you want to create, as all are hardwearing. And, if you want something really striking, we can incorporate features or random patterns in different species.

Prices for the flooring (excluding VAT) are:

Beech - £33/m2
Elm - £40/ m2
Sycamore or ash - £35/m2
Oak - £37/m2

Laying and finishing, including two coats of oil, is £30/ m2 plus VAT, assuming a sound, level subfloor. We also charge for travelling time if you are more than 30 minutes drive from Falkirk.

Our flooring comes in 57 mm, 83 mm and 108 mm widths (21/4, 31/4 and 41/4 inches). The board thickness is 23mm. Boards are supplied in random lengths and are tongue and grooved.

We recommend laying hardwood floors on an existing level wooden floor or on OSB or plywood. If required we can tongue and groove the ends of all boards for an extra £5/m2 plus £10 set-up charge.

We can also supply and fit matching skirting and other finishings.

To finish the floor, we recommend using Osmo Polyx hardwax oil - we prefer to use oil rather than varnish, as it penetrates the wood and provides nourishment, and the Osmo product is hardwearing, gives an attractive matt or satin finish, and is produced from a base of natural oils and waxes. We stock Osmo and Auro oils and waxes .
