Posted 23rd Aug 04 - Falkirk Wood has once again been successful in attracting financial support from the Falkirk Environment Trust and Shanks First for the purchase of new equipment to enable us to expand our range of products made from local logs that would otherwise go to waste.  This includes solid hardwood flooring, decking, external cladding, skirtings and other mouldings. An upgrade to the buildings is due to begin on 23rd August and our new equipment will be installed in September.  Please ring or e-mail for more information or quotes.

Dec 5th 2002 - Falkirk Wood has received confirmation of its successful application for capital support from the Shanks First Fund via the Falkirk Environment Trust. This is funding from the landfill tax in recognition that Falkirk Wood is utilising timber that would otherwise go to waste (most hardwood timber bought and sold in Scotland today is imported). We have already begun to implement our development programme and we look forward to being able to improve our services.

Sept 30th 2002 - Falkirk Wood has attracted support from the Board of the Falkirk Environment  Trust to develop new infrastructure including wood working machine tools, a second kiln and a new timber store using Landfill Tax funds. The decision is due to be ratified by the Landfill Tax 'Environmental Body'  committee on 15th November. It means that we will soon be in a position to prepare our timber to the specification of our customer in house. In the meantime we will continue to arrange machining as needed.

October 4th 2002 - Mavisbank Wood, our own small woodland planted in 1992 with broadleaved species is already looking great but we are now working with the Central Scotland Forest Trust and the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers to establish woodland wildflowers in the wood. Volunteers were out today preparing the ground and then planting seed collected in Callendar Wood, Falkirk. Species sown include foxglove, enchanters nightshade and wood avens. We should begin the see the results next spring. Our thanks go to all the volunteers. Contact  Penny Edwards (by phone or e-mail) if you'd like to have a walk around the wood or find out about more.
