Growing Your Future

Falkirk Wood begins operations

23rd April 2002

An innovative scheme to improve the landscape and environment and create lasting employment is being pioneered in Falkirk, Scotland.

Falkirk Wood specialises in milling and drying local hardwoods with a bit of character for use by local craftspeople and furniture makers.

The scheme is building contacts with local businesses, including Falkirk College and Callendar Estate as well as Falkirk Council and the Forestry Commission. It will have an economic impact  and contribute to the general well-being of the area.

Some people might be surprised that felling trees can improve the environment but it encourages good management and healthy regeneration if managed properly. Woods that are managed for timber can still be very  beautiful with lots of wildlife and flowers.
